LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Firefighters responded to a house fire near Pecos Road and Washington Avenue on Sunday around 4:45 p.m. that spread to five other homes.

According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, smoke from the flames was spotted as firefighters left their stations.

Numerous 9-1-1 calls reported the fire behind several homes on Virgil Street. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire and Clark County Fire departments responded to the two-alarm fire to find the bulk of it coming from behind 1213 Virgil Street.

Winds helped spread the flames to neighboring homes including homes on the next street over, Newport Street. The affected homes range from heavy to minor damage.

Witnesses told firefighters they heard a loud pop prior to the fire then spotted a utility pole on fire. That fire then spread to two large trees and then another two large trees and quickly spread to the homes.  Other witnesses reported a brief power outage after they heard the pop.

Four residents received minor injuries, one cat is seriously injured and another cat died as a result.

The American Red Cross is currently assisting twelve adults and children who were displaced.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
