LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Two Las Vegas Metro police officers were hospitalized after being involved in a car accident.

According to Metro, the accident happened just before 1 a.m. Friday at Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards.

Police said one officer pulled over the driver of a Mitsubishi for suspected drinking and driving.

According to police, another officer arrived to assist with the situation, and the Mitsubishi driver was placed in the back of the first patrol car.

While the officers were dealing with the situation, police said, a BMW slammed into one of the patrol cars, causing it to crash into the other two parked cars on the side of the road.

The officers and both drivers were transported to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the BMW driver, identified as Daniel Esparza, 25, had been drinking. Esparza was taken to University Medical Center for treatment before being taken to Clark County Detention Center where he was booked for DUI alcohol with substantial bodily harm.
