About 150 cars lined up at the Speedee Mart for cheap gas on Sept. 20, 2012 (Stefanie Jay/FOX5)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A line began to form as early as 4:30 a.m. Thursday at a west Las Vegas fueling station, where gas was being sold for $1.84 per gallon.
The discounted gas was part of a promotion by a Nevada political group that claims President Obama's green energy agenda failed.
Drivers at the Speedee Mart on Desert Inn and Wynn roads, though, took the opportunity to fill up for cheap, no matter the political intentions of the gimmick. AAA's Fuel Gauge Report showed Las Vegas averaging $3.73 a gallon on Thursday.
Driver Tom Pritchett said he was one of the early risers who waited to get gas at the special rate. He said the special is also convenient since he has to fill up his rental car and return it full later in the day.
Pritchett estimated about $15 in savings.
Organizers Americans for Prosperity-Nevada said the gas promotion was limited to the first 150 drivers. Drivers also were limited to 15 gallons for the special pricing.
The promotion was scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The special was also being offered at a gas station in Reno on Thursday.
