NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

More information is coming to light concerning a shooting Wednesday afternoon that involved a U.S. marshal.

It happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

North Las Vegas police are investigating the shooting, but it was a U.S. marshal who pulled the trigger. The intersection was closed for hours and a 27-year-old fugitive is dead.

"I saw a car chasing that white Toyota Corolla," said Amy, a witness who requested we only use her first name."Then the guy got out and ran – well, tried to run. I heard one more shot, pow!"

North Las Vegas Police Department spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the suspect was involved in a short pursuit with the Multi-Jurisdictional Fugitive Task Force, a team made up of local and federal law enforcement members.

"The suspect presented a firearm and the U.S. marshal fired at the suspect, fatally striking him," Coon said.

Police said the man was wanted for two parole violations in Arizona. They didn't specify why he was on parole.

"This Fugitive Task Force typically tracks violent fugitives. The suspects that they are typically trying to apprehend are individuals who are wanted for very violent crimes," Coon said.

"Just pull over, man – don't run. That's the worst thing to do is run because look what happened. Got to give up," said bystander Chris Hardin.

No officers were injured in the incident. Police said there were two women in the car with the suspect. They have been arrested.

The coroner will identify the suspect's body on Thursday.
