BLUE DIAMOND (FOX5) -

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has been rounding up wild burros in the area of Blue Diamond and now you can adopt them.

The animals will be available for adoption on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the BLM's Oliver Ranch in Red Rock Canyon near Blue Diamond.

In order to qualify, you must possess an approved adoption application. Applications are available online here and the Southern Nevada District Office, located at 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive.

The following will apply to the adoption:

  • All wild burros will be vaccinated, de-wormed, and Coggins tested.
  • Selection and number of burros available will be based on what burros are collected.
  • All adoptions require an approved application.
  • All adoptions will be first-come, first-served.
  • The base adoption fee is $125 or $200 for a jenny and foal pair.

Standard covered stock trailers large enough for three or more horses are generally acceptable. No 1-horse trailers will be allowed. 2-horse trailers will only be allowed if they are the stock variety with no internal dividers. Drop ramp tail gates are forbidden.
