LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Advocate groups say the number of obese adults in Nevada will dramatically increase over the next 20 years. They're estimating 50 percent of adults in Nevada will be obese by the year 2030.

Projections for 2030 come from the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Their report "F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012," says 39 U.S. states will see obesity rates climb to 50 percent and more by 2030.

The report suggests that by 2030, obesity-related health care costs in Nevada could climb by 18.2 percent, which could be the 14th highest increase in the country.

Nationally, nine states could see increases of more than 20 percent, with New Jersey on course to see the biggest increase at 34.5 percent. Sixteen states and Washington, D.C., could see increases between 15 percent and 20 percent, the report says.

The report emphasizes the health risks and associated costs for Nevadans if obesity rates continue to climb. Read more about what the report says about Nevada's health, and the changes it suggests the state makes to combat obesity at healthyamericans.org.
