Friends defend bus stop wreck suspect

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

For the first time, people who know bus stop wreck suspect Gary Hosey are coming to his defense. They're pleading with the judge to give Hosey a lenient sentence.

Hosey's family and friends told FOX5 they're distraught over the case and feel for the victims. Hosey could spend years in prison for allegedly being behind the wheel drunk and killing four people at a bus stop.

His friends repeatedly said Hosey is a good guy who made a bad mistake. According to the arrest report, Hosey was driving his girlfriend's car when the crash happened. Hosey told police the reason he was driving faster than the speed limit was because he had to pick up his girlfriend and didn't want her to be late for work.

On Monday, FOX5 spoke with Hosey's friend, Tom White. White has known the suspect for years and said the community shouldn't be quick to judge Hosey because of the crash.

"I know for a fact that he's sorry," said White. "If he could take it back, he would. I know him. I know how he feels when stuff like this happens."

White claims the police report is wrong and Hosey has a license. Meanwhile, FOX5 also spoke to the families of the victims who died. One family member said their grandchildren will never get to meet their grandmother.

As of Monday afternoon, three victims remain in the hospital following Thursday's crash. Sunrise Hospital has two victims in good condition. UMC has one victim in critical condition.
