LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The days of the Imperial Palace are expected to wind down later this year as a name change is planned for the Las Vegas Strip resort-casino.
Caesars Entertainment announced Monday that the Oriental-themed property will be renamed The Quad Resort and Casino.
The gaming resort company said a brand transformation will be noticeable on property as early as November. The company hopes for a full brand transition by Dec. 21.
In addition, renovations were announced for the property, expected for completion by late 2013, Caesars said.
"The whole front, from Las Vegas Boulevard all the way through the casino, and back to monorail will be completely redone," said Rick Mazer, Caesars Entertainment regional president.
The new name was chosen because, whether at school or work, the quad was the place to hang out.
"The quad was always the social place and that's what we wanted to create," Mazer said. "Somewhere that was very friendly, very approachable and very social."
The property, which was first opened in 1959 as the Flamingo Capri and renamed in 1979 as the Imperial Palace, has already undergone some noticeable changes as the Linq entertainment district continues to be built.
The main entrance from Las Vegas Boulevard was shifted to neighboring Harrah's during work on the Linq project.
The $550 million Linq project, which will feature a 550-foot observation wheel, is slated to open in June, 2013.
