LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Las Vegas man made his first court appearance Monday in connection to a wreck that killed four people at a west end bus stop.
Gary Lee Hosey, Jr., 23, was charged with four counts of felony driving under the influence, which led to the deaths of four people who had been waiting for a bus.
Judge Conrad Hafen denied a defense motion for his Hosey's release. The judge also did not set bail for Hosey and scheduled his next court appearance for Sept. 21.
The court room was reportedly filled for Hosey's initial appearance.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, Hosey was the person behind the wheel of a car that plowed into awaiting bus passengers on Spring Mountain Road near Decatur Boulevard on the morning of Sept. 13.
Police said Hosey's vehicle had been speeding eastbound on Spring Mountain, lost control, went airborne and crashed into the bus stop. The crash also resulted in injuries to seven others, authorities said.
According to police, Hosey was charged while under treatment at Sunrise Hospital. Hosey was released from care a day after the wreck and placed in police custody, a hospital spokesperson said.
The Clark County Coroner's office said those killed included Johnni Lee Garner, 49; Gerber Herman Ayala-Tomasino, Jr., 24; Margoth Gonzalez, 65; and Hyon Cooley, 47. The coroner said all of the deaths were ruled to be accidental.
Hosey's mother – Lechtrianna Hosey – was in court for her son's appearance Monday. She told media that she felt bad for the families affected in the deadly wreck.
