It's a touchy subject in our community and on the campus of UNLV.
Each year some fans call for the university to toss out the football program. Following an embarrassing loss to Northern Arizona last weekend, The Rant lines lit up.
"I know it's a tough decision to (make), but I think it's time for UNLV to evaluate how important the football program is. Can they afford to keep losing $3 million a year when the fans don't show up? Other colleges have done it, other universities have done it, and they've come out better for it. It's just time," a Rant caller said.
Still, there are a number of reasons UNLV wants to keep football around, including the effect elimination would have on its highly successful basketball program and other sports.
In the attached video, reporter Kevin Bolinger looks at some of the reasons for keeping football at UNLV, some of which may never have occurred to you.
