LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Health officials said a 75-year-old woman was hospitalized as the first human case of West Nile virus in Clark County.
In an announcement Friday, the Southern Nevada Health District said the woman was diagnosed with the more serious "neuroinvasive" form of the illness.
Last month, officials said infected mosquitoes were first reported in Clark County in the 89107 zip code.
In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the outbreak of the virus has spread at a record pace this year. More than 2,600 cases and 118 deaths were reported as of Sept. 11.
