Thousands flood Cashman Center to see President Obama

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

President Barack Obama was back in Las Vegas Wednesday, making a quick campaign stop that marked his seventh trip to the valley in 2012 alone.

Ticketholders gathered at Cashman Center all afternoon. The event drew approximately 8,000 people.

Many of those who attended had seen the president before; others heard him speak in person for the first time.

The president arrived at McCarran Airport at 4 p.m. and took the podium at Cashman Center just after 6 p.m.

The president's Las Vegas visit was pushed back about 30 minutes because of ongoing issues connected with the situation in Libya.

The president started by acknowledging the situation in Libya and went on to cover topics ranging from job creation to tax cuts for the middle class and health insurance.

FOX5 heard from protestors who were less than eager to hear what the president had to say.

"Hopefully (there are) other likeminded Americans that will think the same thing. He has the worst record. We need some jobs here," said Mitt Romney supporter Lynn Thornhill.

"I think this city needs him and (needs to) stand by him. I hope he comes out (to Las Vegas) even more," said Obama supporter Felice Garcia.

Several people FOX5 spoke with said that it was so crowded inside Cashman Center they opted to leave and watch the speech from home.
