Running from troopers, man falls to his death

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Troopers were attempting to make contact with a man running on the 215 before he fell to his death Friday, authorities said.

The death and the resulting investigation caused traffic to slow down on the westbound lanes of the highway at Decatur Boulevard starting about 5 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol said.

According to NHP, the person fled into travel lanes, jumped over a wall and fell off the bridge onto Decatur below. The man was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities did not disclose why the person was running from troopers or what led to the incident.

An investigation into the incident, including the manner of the person's death, is ongoing.

The jumping death caused a significant slow-down of the 215 during the morning commute. Traffic was diverted off the highway for almost four hours.

NHP said all lanes of highway were re-opened by 9 a.m.
