NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

The Southern Nevada Health District is gearing up for this weekend's Choose & Move festival.

The ninth annual event takes place at the Doolittle Center in North Las Vegas this Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Health District is a partner and sponsor of the festival.

Choose & Move is designed to promote the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits.

The festival is free and open to the public.

It will feature free health screenings, a healthy cooking demonstration, dance instructions, and the annual Officer James Manor Memorial Basketball Game.

"The Choose & Move Festival is an opportunity to provide important information to the community in order to promote healthier lifestyles," said Celeste Folmar, chairwoman of Community Partners for Better Health. "The participation of partners like the health district allows us to expand on this opportunity and provide a variety of activities that allow participants to make better decisions that impact their health and ultimately help to raise the health status of our community,"

Participants will also be entered for a chance to win prizes in several drawings.
