A man was found floating in six feet of water in the Temple Bar Marina area on Lake Mead Sunday morning.
Lake Mead Park Rangers told FOX5 a man was reported missing in the area at 3:15 a.m. when he did not return from retrieving fishing gear.
The 49-year-old man had been fishing when his fishing lure was snagged on some vegetation. The man then attempted to enter the water to free the gear. According to witness reports, calls for help were heard followed by splashing, then silence.
A search was conducted immediately, but he was found later in the morning.
The Mojave Coroner's office identified the victim as Roderick Rayford of North Las Vegas, NV. Rangers said Rayford was not wearing a personal flotation device. Investigation to determine the cause of the presumed drowning is underway.
