HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
The City of Henderson said residents should be aware of road closures set to take place next month during an international athletics event.
The city, along with Lake Las Vegas, will host the 2012 Ironman World Championship on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Organizers said more than 1,800 participants are expected to compete over the course of eight hours during that day.
The course includes a swimming stage at Lake Las Vegas, a biking stage through Lake Mead Recreational Park and a run stage that ends at the Henderson Pavilion.
Henderson city officials said roads throughout the city will be closed for hours throughout the day, some up to nine hours.
Those road closures begin at Lake Las Vegas about 4:30 a.m. and will continue as the event goes on throughout the city, according to the Ironman website.
