The Fright Dome theme park at Circus Circus will be transformed into a city of the walking dead this fall with some help from the godfather of zombie films, George A. Romero.
Fright Dome creator Jason Egan announced Thursday that his company was teaming with Romero for the park's 10th anniversary on the Las Vegas Strip.
"For the past decade we've had one of the top haunted attractions in the nation but I would have never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to work with an icon in the industry like George," Egan said in a statement.
Together, the two will construct the "Ward of the Dead," a haunted house that will usher guests through a zombie apocalypse, where they will try to escape before becoming bitten by a horde of living dead.
"It's been fun to scare people on the big screen all these years, now I get to do it with the real deal! It's going to be great to see," Romero said.
Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" was released in 1968 and became the template for modern zombie fiction. It spawned five sequels and was added to the National Film Registry in 1999.
Today, zombies are more popular than ever. On television, AMC's "The Walking Dead" is a smash hit, and next summer Brad Pitt will star in the zombie apocalypse film "World War Z," based on Max Brooks' critically-acclaimed novel.
In addition to Romero's "Ward of the Dead," this year's Fright Dome will feature four new haunted houses: the zombie-themed "Infected," a chainsaw-romp titled "Camp Massacre," "Fright Dome's Urban Legends" and a mash-up of fan favorites dubbed "The Anniversary."
Fright Dome opens Sept. 29.
