Southwest plane struck by lightning at McCarran

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines has confirmed a plane was struck by lightning Tuesday night at McCarran Airport.

Flight 529 from Las Vegas to San Jose, CA was at the gate when it was hit. The captain evacuated the eight people who were on board at the time and there are no reports of injuries.

The Boeing 737 was set to leave at 8:05 p.m.

The plane has been taken out of service for the time being. However, the aircraft was checked out by fire inspectors who found no substantial damage.
