NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

A North Las Vegas mother was arraigned in court Tuesday in connection to an incident in which her son shot himself.

Carmen Gustin, 38, faces four counts of child neglect with substantial bodily harm, two counts of child neglect and a count of destroying evidence. The charges relate to the Aug. 9 incident involving her 10-year-old son.

According to North Las Vegas police, Gustin left the boy and his 3-year-old brother alone at home. Detectives said, after the incident, Gustin hid the gun and took the 3-year-old to a neighbor's house in order to hide evidence of the shooting.

The 10-year-old is expected to recover from the shooting.

Police noted in an arrest report that one of Gustin's other sons had an accident involving the same firearm in the shooting about seven years ago.

"The gun went off and put a round into the apartment next door," the NLVPD arrest report for Gustin read.

Her bond was set at $160,000.

Police said Child Protective Services took custody of Gustin's 3-year-old son.
