Giant potato passing through Vegas Monday

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A giant potato is making its way to Las Vegas Monday to raise awareness for Meals on Wheels.

The Great Big Idaho Potato Truck is on a seven-month journey across America to celebrate the Idaho Potato Commission's 75th anniversary.

A 48-foot-long flatbed trailer carries the 28-foot by 12-foot wide creation.

The potato is a larger-than-life replica of a vintage Idaho potato postcard.

This potato would take more than 10,000 years to grow, and two years and nine months to bake.

It will be at the Walmart on Boulder Highway near Harmon Avenue from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The community is invited to come out and take pictures with the potato.

The goal is to raise awareness and funds for Meals on Wheels Association of America, the largest national organization helping feed hungry seniors.

Visitors are encouraged to make a $7 donation to MOWAA, the cost of preparing and serving one meal.
