Gas climbs 20 cents in 2 weeks

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Drivers are getting less bang for their buck at the gas pump. The average price of gas has climbed 20 cents over the last two weeks.

Las Vegans are paying $3.57 a gallon on average, according to AAA. The average represents an 8 cent climb in seven days. National prices are up about 2 cents a gallon during the same time period, averaging $3.70 a gallon.

Drivers in Las Vegas were paying 20 cents less, per gallon for gas in July. Prices are up 13 cents a gallon from August of 2011.

While prices have been trending upward, analysts say the worst could be over soon.

"As the West Coast and Great Lakes see refining issues in the rear view mirror, as well as the end of the summer driving season approaching, we may see a new downward pattern develop which could see average prices falling- especially after mid-September, a pattern that could dominate the gas pump until the holiday season," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com.
