LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Clark County School District wants children and drivers to learn about safety on the roads as the new school year starts up a week from Monday.

William Wright Elementary School in Las Vegas is scheduled to host a safety event to emphasize safe crossing of roads as well as the demonstration of smart driving habits around schools, CCSD said.

According to the school district, Wright Elementary students will show how to safely use crosswalks and the importance of obeying traffic laws.

CCSD is teaming with Las Vegas Metro police and its district police force to put on the safety event.

According to Transportation for America, more than 47,000 pedestrians were killed in the United States between 2000 and 2009. Las Vegas was ranked as the sixth most dangerous city in the entire U.S. by Transportation for America.

The event was scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
