HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
A Henderson woman who claimed she strangled her boyfriend in self-defense faces a murder charge. Tammy Lucero, 36, is sitting in the Henderson jail. Back in May, her boyfriend, 35-year-old David Hudson, was found dead at the couple's apartment.
The arrest report details the couple's abusive and violent relationship. Lucero told police she feared for her life. That's why she killed her boyfriend during a fight. But also in the report, some neighbors claim she was the aggressor.
In the report, Lucero claims Hudson was jealous over a spaghetti-strap shirt. That triggered a fight at their apartment on Judy Lane. Lucero said Hudson tried to strangle her. That's why she wrapped the power cord around his neck.
"There's just no words," said Hudson's mother Katherine Alexander. "I'm still angry with the system. If it was my son that would have done this he would have been put behind bars from day one."
Hudson's mother said this was a day she waited for.
"There's no words to put how excited we are," Alexander said.
The report also paints a history of domestic abuse at that home. Lucero claims Hudson beat her on average three times a week and tried to stab her two weeks before the murder.
"You don't want somebody to lose their life," Eva Adkins said. "Somebody shouldn't live in fear. She shouldn't be beat. There will come a day when enough is enough and she snapped."
But other neighbors gave conflicting reports, saying Lucero injured herself while trying to commit suicide. They said the reason for the argument that day was over Lucero wanting Hudson's pills.
Alexander said her son was the victim of Lucero's physical abuse. She doesn't believe justice will be served until she is sentenced.
"Up the day that happens we are not going to be content," Alexander said. "Even after that nothing will bring our son back."
Lucero is in the Henderson Detention Center without bail.
