LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department wants your help making sure students get to school safely. Metro said Wednesday that between 15 and 25 new crossing guards are needed before the start of school.
Metro says the crossing guard program has a 20 year record of helping students walk to school safely without any injuries at monitored crossing sites. This year though, a number of people who worked as crossing guards in previous years are calling Metro in the weeks leading up to school to say they can't help out this year. That's why new hires are needed.
Crossing guards assist elementary school children with crossing streets as they walk to and from school each day.
Guards work 1 hour a day at $8.91 an hour. The commitment is 30 minutes each morning and 30 minutes each afternoon. Despite working just one hour guards are paid for 2.5 hours, daily.
To assure quality service Metro trains school crossing guards individually. All guards are given the equipment and uniform needed to help children cross the streets safely.
