LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police Monday night busted a grow house in the 8300 block of Fox Brook Street, near Windmill Lane and Rainbow Boulevard in southwest Las Vegas.

Narcotics investigators found about 50 mature plants inside the home with an estimated street value of around $150,000. Police said two rooms in the home had been converted to grow the plants.

Police received tips from neighbors in the area who noticed the smell. Investigators watched the house for a few days before obtaining a search warrant.

Officers located Michael Herda, 23, inside the home. He was questioned and arrested.

Police said Herda does not possess a medical marijuana license and does not have any reason to grow marijuana other than to sell it.

Police further said the grow operation was sophisticated, with all the requisite equipment and electrical connections. Police found no weapons, however.

Police said Herda will be charged with felony possession and possession with intent to sell.

Homeowner Michael Herda is a relative of John Herda, a Las Vegas businessman who was murdered in a robbery/home invasion in 2006.

The investigation was conducted by the SCORE team. SCORE stands for Southern Nevada Cannabis and Regional Enforcement. The team is a HITDA funded task force.

Citizens who believe any type of illegal activity may be happening in Southern Nevada are encouraged to call a local police department, or Crime Stoppers at (702)-385-5555. More information about Crime Stoppers can be found online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
