NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

Three U.S. senators, including former presidential candidate John McCain, are expected to discuss looming defense cuts in a public town hall in North Las Vegas on Monday.

The town hall entitled "Preserving America's Strength" is part of a series of meetings at military communities across the U.S. to detail the budget cuts and their affects on national security.

McCain and Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, and Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, are members of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

According to the three senators, cuts to defense spending will weaken national security and put one million jobs at risk. They will also break the faith of current military members, they said.

About $500 billion were agreed to be cut over 10 years, the senators said. An additional $500 million are under consideration to be cut, they said.

Organizers said the senators are expected to tour Nellis Air Force Base as part of their visit to the region.

The town hall meeting is slated for 3 p.m. at the Telecommunications Auditorium at the College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus. It is open to the public.
