One person dead after crashing into parked semi

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

One person is dead after their Ford Mustang crashed into the back of a parked semi truck.

Las Vegas Metro police said the accident happened at around 6:40 a.m. Saturday near Gowan Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the Ford Mustang was traveling west on Gowan when the vehicle went to the right side of the road and struck the rear of the tractor trailer parked on the north side of Gowan.

Gowan was closed eastbound between Rainbow Boulevard and Shermcrest Way for several hours.

The driver's identification and exact cause of death is pending an examination by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

This is the 74th traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2012.
