Star Trek fans beam down in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Thousands of Star Trek fans are beaming down in Las Vegas for a convention organizers call "the Star Trek event of 2012."

Creation Entertainment's Official Star Trek Convention got underway Wednesday at The Rio Suites Hotel. This year's event features iconic Star Trek cast member William Shatner and most members of the Strek: The Next Generation cast.

Hundreds of vendors have set up as auctions, contests, parades and parties get underway for die-hard fans.

Sunday marks a special event as four former captain characters, including William Shatner, take to the main stage. For a full list of convention events click, here.
