HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
A motorcyclist was killed and a pedestrian injured in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in Henderson, police reported.
Police said a 19-year-old woman was driving a Buick Regal southbound on Eastern Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. when she attempted a left turn onto Wigwam Parkway. She struck a motorcyclist who was headed northbound on Eastern.
The motorcycle and rider then slid across Eastern, striking a 27-year-old male pedestrian who had been standing near a light pole on the northeast corner. The motorcycle and rider then struck a power pole and the rider hit a traffic control power box, knocking out power to traffic signals.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Henderson police said a Metro officer observed the motorcyclist speeding prior to the crash, which they believe was a factor in the collision.
The pedestrian was taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. The woman driving the Buick was not injured.
This marks the ninth fatal traffic-related accident in Henderson this year.
