LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A child playing with a lighter is to blame for an apartment fire that displaced four people Friday, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported.
Firefighters arrived at the complex at 1901 Jones Boulevard just after 5 p.m. to find smoke billowing from a second-story two bedroom apartment. The fire was confined to one bedroom and firefighters had it under control in less than two minutes.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.
When the child started the bedroom fire with a lighter, an adult attempted to put it out with water to no avail. A neighbor then tried to put it out with several fire extinguishers but that didn't work either.
One person suffered smoke inhalation and another received a serious laceration.
The American Red Cross is assisting the two adults and two children displaced by the fire.
