Fugitive slain by FBI near Vegas casino identified

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Authorities say a 35-year-old man shot and killed by an FBI agent during an armed confrontation outside a Las Vegas neighborhood casino was a fugitive in an armed robbery case -- and was wanted for questioning in a recent murder.

The Clark County coroner says Joshua Burchell died of multiple gunshots in the 3 p.m. Thursday shooting in a parking lot outside Arizona Charlie's casino southeast of downtown.

FBI Agent Patrick Turner says Burchell had a gun.

Police say Burchell was sought on a warrant issued in a May 2011 robbery at an area fast food restaurant.

He was also sought in the shooting death of 38-year-old Esteban Meza Jr. of Las Vegas.

Police say a church friend found Meza's body in his apartment July 22.
