Opening day for the 2012 school session kicks off for Clark County Aug. 27, and it's important to get students ready with supplies and immunizations they need before the first days.
Stores are stuffed with all the pens, pencils, paper and other school supplies the kids will need. But it's best to get there early for the best selection.
Parents don't have to worry about finding the list of items their pupil will need. Most stores take care of that for you.
"When parents come into Target stores they can go right to our back to school area and get the list of what their child needs based on their grade level which we have set up in our back to school area," said Kevin Brown who is a Target Executive HR Team Leader.
Backpacks are the hot item according to Brown. "It's one of the biggest sellers now. We have a lot of the characters in stock from the old classics like Mickey and all the Disney characters to the newer ones," Brown said.
Immunizations are important as well and available at a new location for the Southern Nevada Health District at 330 South Valley View Boulevard at Meadows Lane. Those in need of the shots can get that done Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The SNHD says the shots help protect against whooping cough, Hepatitis A and B, Polio, Chickenpox and more. SNHD officials say it's important to come early and not wait until the last minute because the final days before the school session begins will be very busy.
