A group of "Awesome Girls" in the Vegas area are working to help the victims of the Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting.
The Very Awesome Girls Into Nerdy Activities group will hold a "Bat Signal of Hope" bake and craft sale event Saturday in Las Vegas. They've teamed up with four area comic book stores, where Las Vegans will be able to buy sweet treats and "geeky" crafts. Periodic Element Cookies, Minecraft Rice Krispy Treats and Batman Art will are just a few of the items on tap.
"Super heroes fight for what is right in the world. They give hope to those who need it. In the spirit of X-Men, the Avengers and JLA, the Vegas community teams up for Aurora," said Stephanie Payne, founder of the Very Awesome Girls. "Our combined effort will help the victims and send a message: We overcome fear with hope. We conquer violence with love."
Alternate Reality Comics, Cosmic Comics!, The Sci-Fi Center and HellPop! Comics are all hosting sales with the Very Awesome Girls Saturday.
"I think it's wonderful that we have groups in our community like the Very Awesome Girls who donate their time and talents to organize these types of fundraisers," said Brian Fudge of Cosmic Comics. "Not only do their efforts help the victims and their families but they bring our community closer together."
100% of sales from the Bat Signal of Hope event will be donated to the Colorado Organization of Victim Assistance, giving money directly to the victims of the Aurora mass shooting. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 4th at participating locations. Each individual store will have additional sales to help raise even more funds.
