Nevada tackling unlicensed health care

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

In response to the number of illegal, unlicensed medical procedures carried out in Nevada, such as a procedure last year that sent a victim to the hospital and a buttocks enhancement that cost a woman her life, a statewide campaign to combat the problem is in the works.

The Say No to Unlicensed Health Care campaign - a joint effort by the Nevada State Health Division, the University of Nevada, Reno Latino Research Center and the Nevada Attorney General's Office – was made possible through a grant secured via a settlement with UnitedHealth.

According to Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, scammers frequently target the Latino community, posing as dentists, pharmacists, cosmetologists and more.

You may anonymously report illegal medical activity by calling 2-1-1.

You may also text your five-digit zip code to 898211 (TXT211). You can remain anonymous but need to provide information on the activity taking place - including address, date and times - as well as the names of any witnesses.

You also must provide the name of the person(s) performing the medical activity, how you learned about that person and how to contact him or her.
