LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A double shooting in front of several children that took a woman's life has shocked a Las Vegas neighborhood.
It was late Friday morning when neighbors near Buffalo and Alta drives got a surprise from a 9-year-old boy, screaming that his mother had been shot.
"He said, ‘I need help. I need help. My father just shot my mother and her friend,'" said a neighbor who didn't wish to be identified.
The neighbor said what happened was terrifying.
"Never expected waking up this morning that all of this would take place," she said.
A man and woman had been shot inside the little boy's home. Five children between 6 months old and 9 years old were home when the shooter showed up.
"They were in the same room when it happened, and they were complaining about their ears hurting," the anonymous neighbor continued.
Neighbors and friends identified the shooter as the father of the children. Metro police identified the person of interest in the shooting as Troy White, a man who later in the day surrendered to a Yavapai County Sheriff's deputy in Arizona.
"Seeing something like this is pretty scary, actually," said neighbor Shaun McDonald.
"All I saw was cops running into the house and someone brought out a child," said Silvia Ventura, another neighbor.
The kids' grandfather had to break the grim news that their mother was dead.
"It was really bad when their granddad had to tell them that their mom was dead. You realize how sad that was," another anonymous neighbor said.
The woman who died was 29. The man who was shot was taken to a hospital. His injuries are non-life-threatening.
Metro detectives are headed to Prescott, AZ to pick up White. Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
