9 break-ins in a month at Vegas apartment complex

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Residents of The Breakers apartment complex near West Sahara Avenue and Hualapai Way have a reason to worry - in fact, they have nine reasons.

According to Metro, that's the number of break-ins that have taken place at the complex since the end of June.

The crimes have been occurring random times of the day between 5 a.m. and midnight.

"Until my neighbor right next door knocked on our door a couple nights ago, we didn't know anything was going on," said Breakers resident Shaneah Bellomy.

Bellomy lives with her fiance, 7-year-old son and 12-day-old daughter.

She found out about the burglaries two days ago, when her neighbor became a victim.

"What really worries me is they didn't let any of us know," Bellomy said, referring to complex management. "They haven't put up flyers. They haven't let any of the residents know. All we know of is word of mouth."

Olen Properties, who manages the complex, had no comment for FOX5 when asked about the crime spree Thursday.

"It actually makes me worried about leaving at night," said another resident.

Many don't know what they should be doing to make sure they don't become a target.

"If the break-ins continue and the perpetrators aren't caught, and the management does nothing, after a certain amount of time... I would look to move," said that same resident.

Bellomy requested additional deadbolts be installed at her home and guards for her windows.

Her fiance, Travis Lankford, is considering other forms of protection.

"I've even looked into getting a gun myself to make myself and my family feel safer," he said.
