LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police are crediting an alert hiker with the discovery of an enormous marijuana grow operation in Clark County.

The HITDA Task Force - made up of officers from Metro, Henderson Police, North Las Vegas Police, the DEA and U.S. Forest Service – Wednesday eradicated more than 11,000 mature plants in Wallace Canyon, near the Nye County line on State Route 160.

Police said most of the plants measured between two and three feet high and would have produced roughly 11,000 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $16.5 million.

Hikers are reminded that the danger of extreme violence exists should you stumble upon a marijuana grow operation. If you suspect a grow operation, you're urged to leave the area quickly and notify police at (702)-828-3461 or Crime Stoppers at (702)-385-5555.
