Free phones offered at event for low-income locals

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Hundreds of disadvantaged people around the valley have an opportunity to pick up a free cell phone at an event Saturday.

"Free Phone Project" will give phones with free monthly minutes and texts to low income individuals, veterans and senior citizens, among others

A total of 500 phones will be handed out at Saturday's event.

It is at MGM Resorts International Culinary Academy of Las Vegas Events Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Phones will also be mailed out to those who qualify.
