HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

The man shot and killed by police Monday morning in Henderson was being sought in connection with a murder late last month. He's been identified as 42-year-old Andy Puente Soto. "He was not following orders and had his hand in his waistband, indicating he may have a weapon," said Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul.

An undercover criminal acquisition team was following Soto on Boulder Highway when they called for a Henderson police car to make a routine traffic stop. "The suspect did not stop and continued southbound on Boulder Highway, then made a turn onto Warm Springs. The suspect then attempted to go over a median which disabled his car," said Paul.

Police said Soto then tried to hijack a car driven by an elderly woman, who quickly drove off. The pursuing officers ordered him to get down. He reportedly didn't follow the order and again made a gesture indicating he may have had a weapon, according to police. That's when he was shot and killed.

Police later determined Soto was not armed when he was shot.

A man who did not want to be identified arrived at the scene moments later and saw police tending to Soto. "They were working on him for about five minutes and then they stopped," he said.

Police had an active murder warrant on Soto in connection with the stabbing death of 36-year-old Scott Gerald Harrison. He was killed on June 29. His body wasn't found until July 4 in the desert near Indian Springs.
