Andy Soto (Henderson PD)
HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
Authorities identified a homicide suspect shot and killed by officers near an intersection in Henderson Monday.
Henderson police said officers attempted to pull over Andy Puente Soto, 43, near the intersection of Warm Springs Road and Boulder Highway about 9 a.m. Monday.
According to police, a Criminal Apprehension Team had been following the suspect and asked Henderson police to conduct a traffic stop.
When officers tried to stop the person, he kept driving until his vehicle stalled, causing him to flee his car on foot, police said. The suspect even tried to take another vehicle but failed.
After the suspect failed to take the car, police commanded Soto to surrender, which he repeatedly refused.
The suspect then reached for his waist prompting officers to shoot him, police said. The suspect died at the scene.
Officers from Las Vegas Metro and Henderson police were called to investigate the scene. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson was also called to the scene, the D.A.'s office said.
Authorities said Soto was wanted in the slaying of 36-year-old Scott Gerald Harrison. Harrison's body was found July 4 just off U.S. 95 between Las Vegas and Indian Springs.
Warm Springs and Boulder Highway was shut down as an investigation was underway.
