LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Depending on how you look at it, it was either a bold wager or foolhardy. In this case, it paid off handsomely.

A Hawaiian man walked into Binion's Gambling Hall Wednesday morning, pushed $66,200 in chips across the felt where they rested on "even," and held his breath.

Dealer Carlos Basaldua spun the roulette wheel and the ball landed on eight.

The brave Hawaiian, who wants to remain anonymous, instantly doubled his money.

It turns out this big money bettor attempted to place the bet all over town, getting turned down by a number of Las Vegas Strip casinos. Most won't take a single roulette bet over $20,000.

"It's not every day you get a call from a guy who's asking about that kind of wager," said Glenn Casale, director of casino operations. "After a few conversations I realized that this man was serious. I discussed the situation with (Binion's Gambling Hall owner) Terry Caudill, who said he would take the bet."

"We are in the gambling business, this is what we do," Caudill said. "It is somewhat unusual that he wanted to risk such a large amount. I consider these bets on a case-by-case basis. In this particular case, this was a man with a legitimate bet. I congratulate him on his win."

The man said he and his wife will use the winnings to put a down payment on a house.
