LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Two people are confirmed dead in an accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 15 north of Overton, NV. The accident occurred near mile marker 63, about 10 miles north of the Las Vegas Speedway.

Troopers told FOX5 the Ford F250 pickup was headed southbound while pulling a homemade trailer when the tread of the truck's rear tire came completely off.

"It looks like in trying to gain control of the vehicle, the driver went across the center median and across both of the northbound travel lanes of I-15," said Sgt. Kevin Honea of the Nevada Highway Patrol. "The vehicle did overturn. At this point it's hard to tell how many times."

The male driver was taken to UMC for treatment. A female adult passenger her 3-year-old child were discovered deceased at the scene.

Two other children were in the vehicle. One was taken by ground to UMC and the other was taken by chopper.

Northbound lanes of the I-15 were shut down for hours and traffic was diverted at Apex and routed through a frontage road to reconnect with the Interstate through U.S. 93 just north of the accident scene.
