LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A teen arrested during a botched 7-Eleven robbery told police he heard a police officer confront and shoot his accomplice while he cowered behind a store counter.
That's according to the arrest report for 19-year-old Lawrence Howard, who was shot twice by the officer early Tuesday morning at the store on Jones Boulevard near Lake Mead Boulevard.
Police said the officer was making a stop at the store when two witnesses ran outside and told him about the robbery.
According to the arrest report, Howard and 17-year-old Dejuan Robertson entered the store at about 2 a.m. with their shirts pulled up over their heads in an attempt to hide their faces.
Robertson went behind the counter and grabbed cigarettes and money from the cash register, while Howard held a gun to the clerk's head, police said.
The officer entered the store and ordered Howard to "freeze," according to the report. Officials said Howard turned the gun on the officer, prompting him to fire.
Howard is recovering from gunshot wounds at University Medical Center, and has been charged with robbery, burglary, conspiracy and assault on a police officer.
In the arrest report, Robertson confessed to the robbery, saying he and Howard targeted the store because they needed money.
He added that he tried to cover his face because "they know him in that store," the report states.
Robertson is charged with robbery, burglary and conspiracy.
