Patrick Moers (city of Henderson)
HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
The Henderson City Council Tuesday night ratified Patrick Moers as the city's new chief of police during a meeting at city hall.
Moers, 48, was sworn in following the ratification.
"The safety of the people of Henderson has always been the utmost priority for our city council. I know that Chief Moers has devoted more than 20 years of his life to helping protect the people of Henderson. We support him and know he will always put the safety of our citizens first," said Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen.
Moers replaces Jutta Chambers, who announced her retirement in February, less than two weeks after the videotaped beating of a motorist was made public and the city was forced to pay out a six-figure settlement.
Moers is a Chicago native who has been with the department since 1991.
Moers has served as a field training officer, department training instructor and patrol officer. He has additionally worked in the Criminal Investigations Division, where he supervised the property crimes section and crimes against persons section.
Moers was selected for the job by City Manager Jacob Snow.
"Pat is a person who listens and who understands how important communication is in police work," Snow said. "He has the trust of the rank-and-file officers and the respect of his peers across the community. He is a calm, level-headed person who will be a tremendous asset for our department and our community."
