New campaign celebrates Rebels as 'Soul of Las Vegas'

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Rebel pride is the theme of UNLV Athletics' new branding campaign, and the message is it's not gaming but the camaraderie in cheering on our college teams that is the heart of this city.

The campaign - "Scarlet. Gray. Every Day." – was launched to coincide with the 2012-13 season and suggests that to truly understand what Las Vegas is all about, you must see it from the perspective of a Rebel fan.

"UNLV is the heart and soul of Las Vegas and this campaign was built to reflect that," said Jim Livengood, Director of Athletics for UNLV. "We not only wanted to celebrate our programs and our student-athletes, we wanted to celebrate all of those in the community - and throughout the world - who make UNLV so special. This campaign is about our alums, our students, our faculty and staff and, of course, our incredible fans. Just like our teams, those individuals in all walks of life are representing the Rebels on a daily basis and we are cheering for them."

The print ad reads as follows:

People think they know Las Vegas. But they won't know this town until they've seen it through the eyes of a Rebel.

Only then will they understand this city's heart. Only then will they feel Vegas' soul.

This city, where the world comes to play, is the same place where those of us living the Scarlet & Gray go to work every day to earn everything we have.

And that's just the way we like it.

Because we are Rebels. And Las Vegas is our town.

UNLV - Scarlet. Gray. Every Day.

"It's a great time to be a Rebel," Livengood said. "It's a great time to wear the scarlet and gray of UNLV and be proud to call this `my' school and to call these teams `my' teams."
