St. Rose to add hospital tower at Siena campus

HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

St. Rose Dominican Hospitals announced Monday plans to expand its Siena campus with the construction of a new hospital tower and parking structure.

Officials said the new patient tower is expected to add about 100 new private rooms along with a number of rooms dedicated to emergency, intensive care and surgical wards. The parking garage will add 500 spaces to the campus located on St. Rose Parkway near Eastern Avenue.

The two new structures will be built in stages with the garage set to be built beginning next month. An April 2013 completion date was estimated.

During that April, the five-story hospital tower will begin construction with completion scheduled for June 2015.

St. Rose officials said the new tower is in response to the Henderson's need for more hospital beds. The hospital system's president, Rod A. Davis, said the area has seen a shortage of beds. That need has been more critical over the past few years.

"We have been discussing expansion plans at our Siena Campus in Henderson for several years and are thrilled that the process has now begun in earnest," said Davis.

St. Rose puts the cost of the tower at $156 million. The expansion will also allow for the hiring of 700 new positions.

FOX5's Azenith Smith will have details on the new expansion on FOX5 News at 5 p.m. tonight.
