LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Clark County School District (CCSD) will receive more than $81 million from the federal government for the 2012-13 school year thanks to the renewal of the Elementary Secondary Education Act.
CCSD said the money will assist students from high-need, low-income families and result in the creation of more than 600 teaching and support staff jobs.
"We know the biggest impact we can provide is additional personnel in order to help increase student achievement," said Dr. Susan Steaffens, the District's director of Title I services.
To qualify for funds, at least 40 percent of a school's population must qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.
Funds cannot be used to restore teacher positions lost through budget cuts.
