A Las Vegas man was sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison in connection to the shooting death of his wife last year.

Robert Marshall was convicted of voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon in connection to the August 2011 shooting death of his wife Dorothy.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Marshall said he pointed a gun at his wife, telling her not to be afraid. The gun misfired and she was wounded in the head. She was transported to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Marshall was arrested.

The Associated Press reported Marshall had fled house arrest shortly after the shooting and was later captured in Utah.

He was charged with escaping custody and tampering with a GPC tracking device on his ankle related to this arrest.

He was credited for 325 days served behind bars.
