LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas cruised to another upswing in the number of tourists in May.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Thursday a 2.4 percent jump in the number of visitors for May, compared to the same month a year ago.

A total of 3,451,394 people visited the southern Nevada destination in May 2012.

As of that month, the total number of visitors for 2012 still outpaced 2011's amount of visitors over the first five months of the year.

A total of 16,532,440 visitors were counted in 2012 through May, which equated to a 2.4 percent jump from 2011's year-to-date total.

The reported increase comes despite a downtick in gaming revenue in Clark County. The Nevada Gaming Control Board said revenue was down more than 10 percent in May 2012, compared to the same month a year ago.

On the Las Vegas Strip, gaming revenue was down more than 18 percent.

In addition, McCarran International Airport steadied in the amount of passengers in May, reporting only a 0.3 percent increase from the total in the same month in 2011.
