Nevada casino revenue down 10% in May

LAS VEGAS (AP) - State gambling regulators say Nevada casinos revenues were down 10% in May compared with a year earlier.

Nevada Gaming Control Board officials say Thursday that casinos brought in $885 million in May, down from $984 million a year ago.

Revenue on the Las Vegas Strip was down 18% in May at $475 million, while downtown Las Vegas was down 2% at $45 million. Laughlin had a better month, with a 20% gain in May.

Reno revenue was down 5%, while South Lake Tahoe casino winnings dived nearly 27%.

Nevada collected much less tax revenue from casinos in May. State officials say they brought in $52 million based on May winnings, which is a 24% drop from the previous year.
